Have you ever heard that before? Even if you just hang around Satanists or go into Satanism chat rooms, or check out a Satanic website you will have surely seen it. Someone giving their version of what Satanism is. Someone pushing their views of how a Satanist is suppose to act, what they are suppose to say and how they are suppose to feel. How odd that one of the main focuses of Satanism is on the individual.
Well, how do we weed out the crazys who claim to be Satanists you ask? How do we keep other people from thinking that these people represent us? Firstly, most people out there who have a very negative view of Satanism due to their close mindedness will always believe the controversial before they believe what we are really about. People who feel that Satanism will ever be accepted in a Christian dominated world are deluded; it is as simple as that. So then why should we worry about these people who become annoyances? Let everyone think what they want. We will always know more about them then they do us; which gives us the upper hand in the long run. The crazys will get bored and go away or they will go out and kill people and say that Satan made them do it, but come on that is nothing new. Besides, many of these crazys feel that they are Satanists. I myself will not tell them they are not unless their beliefs are Christian. Or seem to be taken from some other white light religion. I will just point out the fact that there is a difference between us and let them go on their way as they are of no concern to me. I refuse to waste my time running around screaming you are not true to everyone who disagrees with me, lets face it there are better things to do now aren't there?
One of the main things that makes Satanism so great is that it is an ever evolving philosophy. It would seem that there are many people out there who would like to keep it stagnant Instead of trying to come up with new thoughts or expand on old ones they use the ideas as a cane of sorts. Offering nothing new or different just USING the cane. Anyone, who comes up with a new idea which is not within their restricted view of what Satanism is they use that same cane to hit them over the head. I will say that I myself was like that at one point and time. Mainly before I became hooked into the infamous information superhighway. I suppose it was the exposure to so many different people who all called themselves LaVeyan Satanists, but had so many different ways to express it. Some of whom I agreed with others who I did not, but we all had the same goal. It made me realize that I was wasting my time yelling this is true this is not true. I still however reserve the right to disagree!
Lately I have been seeing so many hypocrites out there who yell if you do not do this that and the other you are not a true Satanist. I feel these people have some kind of complex within themselves; feelings of inadequacy or something of the like. Remember we may all walk the same road, but don't let anyone tell you how to walk it. These people who scream at the top of their lungs proclaiming themselves to be the truest Satanists and therefore everything they say must be adhered to. Chances are those are the people you should listen to least. I think Mr. Anton LaVey can take the title of true modern Satanist, but as far as I've noticed he hasn't, wanted it. (Why would he? Unlike some people he does not have to yell it, he simply is.) No one I know has any right to that title because simply put what have you done to change or revolutionize Satanism? This is in no way a slight to people who have actually done something. (Note that done something does not equal using someone else words (usually LaVeys) and changing them and saying that you have come up with a new thought; because my friend you haven' t.) This is a slight to people who sit around spew nonsense, rehash another persons ideas call them their own, basically do nothing and complain about how everyone else is doing nothing. Now if you want to do something useful go out and actually think your own thoughts for a change. Different isn' t it?
